I'm taking a little detour from the Nursery project, basically because my next step is to finish the bumper bad and it's become a royal pain in the you know what. And, procrastination is indeed my middle name. Okay, not really, but you know.
So.. here is a tour of the bedroom shared by my 4 and 5 year old sons.
When we bought the house, it looked like this.
Lavender and Rose border isn't really our style, and it certainly wasn't fit for two boys.
Below is how it looks now... We replaced the worn out light fixture with a new ceiling fan. Notice the twine pull, so that they can reach the light! haha!
They have some-what of a feminine rug, because I confiscated their old rug for the Nursery. Below is an older photo (older by a few days! ha!) that shows their older, more boyish rug.
My Step-mom and I found that rug at a Pottery Barn outlet over 4 years ago, when I was busy decorating my 4 year old's then nursery. Oh the memories. :)
Anyhoo,
This room is a mishmash of things we already had, with exception of the beds, the duvets, and their dresser.
The beds were an inexpensive bunkbed purchase from Walmart.com. The total cost was around $190, and for TWO beds (two extremely stable, solid wood beds), you can't really beat that. They easily hold adults and we've actually used them for visitors before.
The duvets are from IKEA, as is their dresser (from the as-is section. Cha-ching for almost $100 off sticker).
All of the firetruck decorations were originally used in one of the bedrooms at our old house. I finally brought them all out of storage a week or so ago.
When I bought the following picture, I originally saw it in an online store, beautifully framed and I fell in love with it. I HAD to have it for our firetruck nursery, at the time. However, at $200+ it was out of my price range. I searched ebay, and found someone selling the poster for around $15. Then I just bought a frame to fit. The old frame actually broke in the move, so this is the second one, but it was still SUCH a bargain.
Every little boy has to have a night-night flashlight, right? :)
Thanks for looking and for any comments!
This is dareling! Great job!!
ReplyDeleteI *love* the idea of the flashlights tied to the bed! Our little one has a basket of flashlights next to his bed - different sizes & colors, he picks which one he wants to "sleep with" each nite - it's cute! Love the pics, thanks for sharing! =)
ReplyDeleteThose flashlights attached to the bed are adorable. I also really like how you have the beds end to end instead of side by side. Cute idea!

Their room turned out sooo cute! I am in the middle of painting my boys room. They are 4 and 6 and love sharing. So far I have one green wall and one blue wall respectively for their fave colors and their sides of the room. I never thought abt butting their beds together like you did! I LOVE it! It would free up a lot of space for them but oh well. Again loving it and I am sure y our boys do too!:)
ReplyDeleteP.s Where did you find their initials?? I have been going back and fourth on how to put their names above their headboards and after seeing your large initials I now want to do that!
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! I love reading feedback. I originally planned to put the beds side by side, the traditional look for twin beds, but it took up almost their WHOLE room. This was an attempt at finding more space for them, and we're SO lucky they fit like this. I think there is an extra INCH leftover, haha!
ReplyDeletePamela, I bought their initials at Joann Fabrics. They're really large and made of a cardboard/paper mache type material. They were a little tricky to paint because the surface wanted to bubble, and I initially freaked out. haha. When they dried it was less noticable, thank goodness.
Adorable!! I totally get the positioning of the bed. I would like to put my daughter's bed the other direction but it is taking up way too much prime real estate needed for playing. Thanks for becoming a follower. Can't wait to see what your up to next.
ReplyDeleteI love me a monogram or initial, where did you find those ginormous letters, thery're great! Love the color palette you chose too.
ReplyDeleteoh the bed layout is just perfect. I imagine they have all kinds of great chats at night time :0)
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling room! Lovin all your firefighter accessories. What a fun space for 2 boys!

Courtney, I am amazed at your beautiful talent. The Lord has truly Blessed you. Hobby Lobby in Conroe has a few firemen ceremic items at half price. You might want to check on your side of town. I bought several items.
ReplyDeleteI just love what you did! The colors are amazing and the fire fighter print is to die for! What a wonderful blue dresser:). Great job!
