Here are some photos of our baby gate the hubby and I constructed this weekend!
Okay, well.. we both designed, he constructed most of it, and I did the painting.
Here it is!
Please, someone, tell this little guy that he is 7 months old and is NOT supposed to be scaling mountain size stairs! LOL.
I thought we'd have a few more months before we'd have to figure out a solution to baby gate off these weird shaped stairs, but the time came sooner than any of us were prepared for.
We debated a supergate around, or building a similar style gate around the base of the stairs, but after Liam decided the computer cords in the front room made a nice teether, we decided to go ahead and gate off the whole front room. :) Sorry little guy.

And, a few detail shots.
Ahh, just love that little caster on the bottom. :)
I ultimately want to find a nice little glass knob to put on it, but it works just fine for now,
....although it isn't making Liam too happy. ha!
Aww. Poor baby. Better safe than sorry though!
Here are semi-detailed directions on how we built it LINK HERE. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Courtney that is fabulous!! I also love that you were smart enough to hang it low enough that he would not fit underneath! I can remember baby gates days and Oldest would always somehow manage to shimmy underneath!;)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you come up with for the stairs. We have a similar configuration and Hubby asked me what we would do for a baby gate if we ever had another lil' one. Not sure who invented those weird stairs.
Absolutely Amazing! And who knew baby gates could be gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteGood job!
Beautiful! It would be great for keeping dogs out of rooms as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I was thinking the same thing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the sweet comment! :)
ReplyDeleteAren't those stairs just too weird???
ReplyDeleteAwww...poor thing! Such a sad little one in that last picture. :) If only he could appreciate what a brilliant and beautiful project this is. I couldn't even tell there was a baby gate there at first. Now THAT'S saying a lot about a baby gate! Such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love this, I built a barn door one when we had stairs, and it was so nice to have an original. Now I need to think of a reason to build one like yours, when I don't have a baby or stairs!
ReplyDeleteDoesn't that photo just pull the heart strings? lol, I actually laugh a little at it but I guess I'm just a mean momma. ha! Thanks for the compliments!
ReplyDeletehaha!
ReplyDeleteWow! I just came across your blog from Kim's party and want to know where you were 2 years ago? LOL! This is soooooo much more beautiful than the iron monstrosity we had to use for our youngest and it looks like it just blends in with the rest of your home and decor. You did an incredible job and I think this was genius! You could market this! :-) We host a linky party every week called Inspiration Friday and we would love to have you join in the fun sometime. The link goes up Thurs. night and it would be great to see you there!
ReplyDeleteVanessa
Love it! We're trying to find one to put in front of our stairs to go down he stairs but need a cat door in it which is almost impossible to find!! I want my husband to build one too...hopefully this one will give him some inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea for making sure the baby is protected. The ones I got from topbabygatesforstairs.com were mostly about directly blocking the upper or lower side of the stairs. This would also be convenient for other people who go up and down often.
