The Boys' Bedroom

Yesterday the walls of the boys' bedroom were changed from a pale purple, to pale wheat to match the rest of the house.  A few paint details will be added to add a little fun-ness.. but boy was I glad to see that purple go!

Today I assembled the boys' new beds.   WOW- that was a task.  Especially with a five year old helping.  :p

Tomorrow- hanging curtains, picking up paint from Lowes (for that accent previously mentioned), and scrounging Craigslist for a new (to them) dresser.

It feels good to make a to-do list, maybe I'll get it all done!  :)

Cabinet doors

So this is the last photo I posted of our kitchen:

Since then it has taken a second coat of Lincoln Cottage Black, a Valspar color from Lowes.

I like this color because it is black, but it isn't very harsh.  In fact, in some lights, it almost has a blue tone to it.

While waiting for the bottom coat to dry, I started work on the cabinet door faces and drawer fronts.

The doors and drawers were given two coats of semi gloss paint over primer for durability.  After each coat I took a Q-tip and removed some of the paint for a worn look.

Thankfully, before I removed the doors to paint the base cabinets, I took a photo of the correct way to reattach the hinges.

I say thankfully, because I did have to refer back to this photo, haha!

After rehanging the doors, the next step was to drill holes for the new door pulls, and attach.

I used a handy plastic guide that we purchased from Lowes to mark where each hole would go.  I then drilled with a small bit to start the hole, and then followed up with the appropriate size bit for the hardware screws.

I ended up buying a bulk pack of door pulls from Home depot.  I believe the cost was about $26 for 25 pulls.  So, for a little over a buck a piece, we have pretty new satin nickel pulls on our doors.  We actually only needed 16 for the kitchen, but we have bathroom vanities that will need pull knobs eventually.

For our drawers I picked out a bin pull from Home Depot that were a little over $3 a piece.  This was quite a bargain since the similiar ones at other hardware/home improvement stores were about $4.95 each or higher- YIKES!

I would show you a photo of it, but I went to install the bin pulls, and the screws that came in each package were too short!

So, a special trip had to be made just to buy longer screws.  Since the new updated photos are still on my camera, that is all for now.

Needless to say, I've been doing a lot of resting and not very much home improvement.
